The Stack
Stacked merchant cash advances: why the fourth one is the trap
One merchant cash advance can be expensive. A stack is what takes the business. Each new advance services the last one. Each UCC-1 makes the next conversation tighter. Each personal guarantee makes walking away a fiction. See MCA debt relief and how we work a file.
The spiral
First advance: the money has to hit that afternoon. Daily ACH starts. Then a week that does not cover payroll. A second advance looks like relief. It is another debit on top of the first. Then a third. Then a fourth.
By the fourth, you are watching ACH clear before you can cover Friday. You are using a new advance to service an old one. You are sitting on one or more UCC-1 filings. You are personally guaranteed on contracts you signed because the money had to hit. You are one missed debit away from default language you did not read the first time.
That is the trap. Not one bad afternoon. The stack.
Sequencing
Do not add a fifth and call it a plan. Work the file in this order:
- Refinance / take-out first — kill the daily debit if the cash flow can hold a replacement payment. Another MCA is not consolidation.
- Negotiate from a file if take-out is not available.
- Legal-path prep with licensed counsel if the funder will not cooperate. Served, frozen, or confession of judgment is a lawyer today.
Do not take another advance
A fourth advance is not working capital. It is the trap tightening. We do not stack a new MCA to pay an old one. US business owners only. Consulting firm, not a mill, not a law firm, not a settlement company. No escrow.

If you are already in the spiral, put the stack on the table — every funder, every debit, every lien — before anyone offers you a fifth.
St. Germain Strategy is an advisory firm. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and we are not a debt settlement company. We do not hold client funds. When a file needs licensed counsel, we will say so and help you prepare to work with them.
